Policies

  1. Integrity: Doing the Right Thing
  • Honesty: We promise to always tell the truth and be open about what we’re doing.
  • Respect: We will treat everyone fairly and with respect.
  • Accountability: If we make a mistake, we will own up to it and fix it.

How would we do this:

  • Regularly checking that our actions match our promises.
  • Making sure everyone in our team understands and follows these rules.
  1. Transparency: Being Clear and Open
  • Feedback: We want to hear from you! Your ideas and concerns help us improve our decisions.
  • Sharing Information: We will keep you informed about Council proposals and seek your input.

How we do this:

  • Make ourselves available on a quarterly basis in a public forum. Inviting both Federal and State members, and other D Ward Councillors so you can get answers to your concerns or make suggestions.
  • Provide updates on social and traditional media.
  • Reduce the endless online consultations and make these more meaningful and accessible to the whole community.
  1. Environment: Caring for Our Shire
  • Sustainable Practices: Implement (not just plan) for Food & Organics and Garden Organics collection.
  • Protect Tree Canopy: with both a coherent policy and measurable targets.
  • Green Projects: We support projects that improve green spaces and reduce pollution. This means we audit and retain conservation areas, and not rezone Natural waterfront land to Recreational land.

How we do this:

  • Planning and supporting eco-friendly initiatives, like tree planting and looking after them.
  • Measure and report native tree loss each year.
  • Protect established trees on Council owned land.
  1. Financial Management: Respect Community Assets
  • Budgeting: We plan spending carefully to ensure we use your funds effectively and don’t waste money.
  • Community: funding for community assets and reject increasing user pay charges.
  • Investment: We invest in projects that will benefit the community and provide good value.

How we do this:

  • Remove the politics from spending and staffing decisions.
  • Prioritise the protection of Community assets.
  1. Diversity: Embracing Everyone
  • Inclusivity: We celebrate and include people from all backgrounds, cultures, and experiences
  • Representation: We are a team of diversity – and this will be reflected in our decisions.

How we do this:

  • Support decisions that ensure fair treatment and support for everyone.
  • Prioritise accessibility throughout the Shire, seeking feedback from Community stakeholders.
  • Become an activist Council that engages and supports all members of the community through measurable engagement and reporting.

We believe in making our local area a better place for everyone. By following these policies, we aim to be honest, transparent, and inclusive of all community members. Your vote and ongoing feedback are crucial to our success, so please stay engaged and let us know your thoughts via the “Contact Us” page!
