Policies

The number 1 priority of The Passmore Independents, is representing the residents of D Ward and the wider Sutherland Shire.

To be your advocates on Council, and ensure your voices are listened to.

We may not always agree, but we can agree that if elected, it is the residents we serve and not the other way around.

Focus Areas For Consideration:

  • Traffic
  • Trash and
  • Trees

Traffic

The Shire has a lot of pressure on it from the State Government to provide more housing but without the funds or the appropriate infrastructure.

With development, the pressures on our local roads is increasing.

Previously quiet suburban streets are now crowded with parking or clogged with trailers and trash.  Other roads become ‘rabbit runs’ with no regard for local speed limits.

Let’s fix this with a Local Environment Plan (LEP) that requires more off-street parking, better signage for speed limits, and where necessary,  traffic calming initiatives.

Trash

Do the Right Thing?  Anyone remember this campaign?

As our Parks have undergone increased use, especially with Covid, what can we do to educate and eliminate garbage?

First answer is usually more bins, and more frequent Council collection.

Second answer?  Do better.  Educate and communicate.  Make this a priority

Trees

Trees – love them or hate them, we must do better.

For every residential development, one tree removed during a development Council requires four new trees to be planted.

Sounds like a good idea,  but it doesn’t work.  There has to be a better way.  Similarly, when the Council plants trees, let’s look after them.

What more can we do?

Increase Accessible Parking

How many Accessible parking spots do we have in The Shire and D Ward specifically?  Not enough.

Customer Parking

Local business needs parking for customers. Small Business cannot afford to have poor pedestrian access, or Work Zones arbitrarily inserted near their business.
